Reflux nephropathy associated with parenchymal dysplasia: still a common cause of chronic renal failure

The renal and bladder US showed a decreased renal mass (maximal diameter 5.3x1.7x2.2 cm and 7.3x3.3x4 cm left and right kidney respectively). Left kidney showed parenchymal thinning, particularly at the upper pole, with increased echogenicity and loss of cortico-medullary differentiation. The right kidney had increased echogenicity with loss of cortico-medullary differentiation. No significant dilatation of the urinary tract was detectable (Figure 1).
