The first presentation of this series is a very nice film sent by the Vascular Surgery Dept. of Bari Hospital, Italy (Dr Castriotta, Dr Cifarelli and Prof Altamura) on how the create an arteriovenous fistula. The issue is important for two reasons, first because the AV fistula is fundamental for optimising clinical outcomes in dialysis patients and secondly because in Europe many nephrologists must have vascular surgery skills.
