Learn more about proteomics in nephrology

In the last issue of NDT-E 2012 you will find three CME lectures presented at the ERA-EDTA meeting in Paris May 2012. In the first lecture Dr. Justine Bacchetta, Bron, France will present a lecture entitled “VITAMIN D, FGF23 AND INNATE IMMUNITY IN CKD”. The 2nd lecture is entitled ”CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE RELATED MORTALITY IN CKD: REVISITING THE ROLE OF VITAMIN D, CALCIMIMETICS, ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE, AND MINERALS” and is presented by Dr. Michal Nowicki, Lodz, Poland. The final CME lecture is presented by Dr Markus Ketteler, Coburg, Germany and is entitled ”NOT ALL PHOSPHATE IS CREATED EQUAL: PHOSPHATE TOXICITY BY FOOD SUPPLEMENTS?”.

In the 239th issue of NDT-E you will also find several novel interesting papers to read. In a paper published in Nephrol Dial Transpl Fredrik Sund et al. showed that low-dose valacyclovir prophylaxis for 90 days post-transplantation results in high patient and graft survival rates and reduces the incidence of CMV disease. You will also be able to read the review on pentraxins in nephrology by M Lech et al. In an interesting paper published in Kidney Int Sanjeev Sethi et al. show that atypical post-infectious glomerulonephritis is associated with abnormalities in the alternative pathway of complement. You will also be able to read the full Kidney Int article published by Antonia Fabris et al. on the familial clustering of medullary sponge kidney. Finally, if you need to learn more about proteomics and kidney disease the review by Mario Bonomini et al. published in J Nephrology could be of much interest.

In this issue of NDT-E there will be an opportunity for you to do the obesity survey with two parts; one testing your knowledge about this common feature of CKD and one practice pattern part. In the section Media/CME Videos you will find an interesting educational video by Dr. Luna Gargani from Pisa, Italy, titled Assessment of B-lines by lung ultrasound. Finally, Emanuela Cavallaro and collaborators will present an interesting and particular case of adult nephrotic syndrome.

Enjoy your NDT-E and have a happy holiday season!
