New drug could improve potassium levels of diabetic kidney disease patients

High levels of potassium in the blood can be deadly. Patients with diabetes and kidney disease are among the most at risk from this condition known as hyperkalemia. However, a novel drug has been shown to significantly lower potassium levels in these patients in a new study.

The new drug patiromer was randomly tested in an open-label phase 2 trial funded by Relypsa and the results are published in JAMA.
