The 5 papers selected for this issue of NDT-E again highlight the broad scope of topics of current interest to nephrologists.
The first one was recently published in the JCI. J Long et al report an study showing that "Long noncoding RNA Tug1 regulates mitochondrial bioenergetics in diabetic nephropathy".
The first 4 papers selected for this 321st issue of NDT-E deal with clinical aspects of nephrology. CH Liu et al first report in NDT a case control study devoted to "Suicide and chronic kidney disease". Next, again in NDT, T Shafi discuss the topic “CKD to ESRD transition: does assessment of kidney function matter ?”.
This 320th issue of NDT-E provides online access to 5 recent interesting papers.
Mario Nuvolone et al. first review in NDT "Systemic amyloidosis: novel therapies and role of biomarkers".
Then, Alexander H. Kirsch et al report, again in NDT, a study devoted to "Performance of hemodialysis with novel medium cut-off dialyzers" too.
This 319th issue of NDT-Edu presents 5 recent NDT papers.
It starts with the PRO/CON/MODERATORS View. This time, the topic is "The use of calcineurin inhibitors in the treatment of lupus nephritis". CC Mok and D Jayne develop the PRO arguments whereas M Fernandez Nieto et al develop the CON arguments. Finally, A Kronbichler et al. present the Moderator's view.
Let me start this 318th edito with a refreshing news: L Koppe et al indeed report in the J Clin Invest that "Urea impairs β cell glycolysis and insulin secretion in chronic kidney disease". An important step in the longstanding debate regarding the specific toxicity of urea!
This 317th issue of NDT-E starts with a paper dealing with an issue sometimes faced by nephrologists and their patients. Indeed, in a recent JCI paper, Eleftheria Lefkou et al report that Pravastatin improves pregnancy outcomes in obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome refractory to antithrombotic therapy. The study size was small but the results convinced the JCI editor and may offer, especially if confirmed, a new hope in this sometimes devastating condition.
This 316th issue of NDT-E starts with a Polar views, now a classical appreciated feature of NDT. Philippe Chauveau et al. and Madhukar Misra discuss whether "Higher serum bicarbonate in dialysis patients is protective". The moderator’s view is provided by Kamyar Kalantar-Zaddeh.
The next 3 papers were also recently published online in NDT.
The first paper of this 315th issue of NDT-E deals with a currently hot topic in medicine and biology. YM Lei et al indeed just reported in the J Clin Invest that "The composition of the microbiota modulates allograft rejection".
This 314th issue of NDT-E starts with a recent translational research paper devoted to membranous nephropathy. NM Tomas et al report in the JCI that "Autoantibodies against thrombospondin type 1 domain-containing 7A induce membranous nephropathy". The authors’ findings support a causative role of anti-THSD7A antibodies in the development of MN.
