SUMMARY OF THE
XXXIV NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE
SPANISH SOCIETY OF NEPHROLOGY (S.E.N.)

The Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN) held its XXXIV Annual Congress on October 2 to 5, in Tenerife (Canary Islands).
At the same time, the Congress of the Society of Neprhology Nursing (SEDEN) was carried out.
The Organizing Committee was chaired by Dr. Juan Navarro in coordination with the SEN President (Dr. Angel L Martin de Francisco) and the entire Board of Directors.
Three simultaneous courses on Dialysis, Diabetic Nephropathy and Renal Transplantation preceded the meeting and can be seen on the SEN web page (www.senefro.org).
More than 700 physicians attended and 74 oral communications and 275 posters were presented.
The Meeting program was based on the organization of symposium, conferences, review of the literature, minilectures, oral communications and poster presentation.
The Inaugural Lecture was given by Dr. Barry Brenner, and was titled "PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PREVENTION OF CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE." He analyzed the different factors that influence the progression of renal failure, based on the RENAAL study and the prevention or decrease of progression with ARAII.
