Nephrology in Spain |
An official nursing degree is obtained at the university after three years of study and passing a final examination. No further degree or studies, other than routine training, is required in order to work in Nephrological Services. Nurses work and rotate within the different departments of the Service (acute and chronic dialysis, CAPD, renal transplant, hospital floor).
There are a total of 3,500 nurses working in dialysis units and services. There is usually 1 nurse required for every 2 acute dialysis stations and every 4 chronic dialysis stations. There is a nephrological nurse's society (SEDEN - www.seden.org ) which organizes a national meeting and publishes a monthly journal.
The position of dialysis technician does not exist in Spain.
