• Regional (Emilia-Romagna) project about Chronic Kidney Disease (population study and registry)
• Renal involvement and renal pathology in:
  rare diseases (Vasculitis,  Alport’s syndrome, medullary cystic disease, von Hippel Lindau);
  hematologic diseases (multiple myeloma, leukemia, amyloidosis, cryoglobulinemia);
  systemic diseases (LES, rheumatoid arthritis ...);
  patients with non-renal organ transplantation (liver, myocardial, bone marrow).
   
• Prevention of the progression of renal diseases, with particular concern to diabetes mellitus
   

• Ischemic nephropathy

   
• The cardiovascular damage in patients with renal failure:
  arterial stiffness assessment by pulse wave velocity measurement;
 

carotid intima-media thickness measurement by b-mode ultrasound scan;

  left ventricular hypertrophy assessed by echocardiography.
   
• Prevention of cardiovascular instability in hemodialysis: uninvasive monitoring and automatic control systems

• The use of athorvastatin in chronic renal failure: observational study of mortality and morbidity in patients with pre-end stage chronic renal failure
   
• The use of a renin inhibitor in slowing the progression of renal damage in type II diabetes
   
• Evaluation of the efficacy of new forms of erythropoietin (pegylated) in the dialysis patients
   
• Efficacy of a recently developed artificial liver system for blood purification and dialysis in patients with acute-on-chronic hepatic failure and associated renal failure  
   
• Efficacy of erythropoietin therapy in the recovery of acute renal failure
   
• Efficacy of  periodical ultrafiltration treatment in diuretic non-responder heart failure
