Although the authors try to give a positive twist to their obtained results, an alternative reading is that biomarkers, even in teh easy setting of post cardiac surgery, do not perform as sensitive and reliable as we are made to believe. The paper is correct in pointing out that lack of a real gold standard is part of the problem. At least, use of biomarkers in clinical practice cannot be advocated as long as there is no stronger evidence for their accuracy |
