Comments
To evaluate to what extent the combined kidney transplantation impairs posttransplantation outcome compared to liver transplantation (LT) alone, the outcome of patients with cirrhosis and chronic kidney disease treated with CLKT (n = 20) was compared to that of a group of patients with cirrhosis without chronic kidney disease treated with LT alone matched by age, sex, year of transplantation and severity of cirrhosis (n = 60). CLKT for patients with cirrhosis and chronic kidney disease is associated with a relatively high frequency of postoperative complications that moderately impairs short-term survival. However, 3-year survival of patients with cirrhosis treated with CLKT is excellent.
